Class Location Analysis–Performance Metrics
We’ve been revamping several tools over the last few months and one that we’ve revisited lately is our Class Location Analyst tool. What we’ve mostly been working on is improvements to documentation and to link into the latest version of pygp (a year brings a lot of nice improvements).
Really happy with the latest performance tests too – now when we (or our clients for that matter) perform a class location assessment using CSA Z662 or CFR 192 we are seeing about 8-10 miles per second when structures are approximately on average 5 per mile. The 8-10 miles per second includes the time for performing the gathering area analysis as well as resolving the overlaps between class.
Given the amount of rigor built into the application we are really pleased with this performance, even the overhead we have included for caring about datums and projections (gasp) really does not degrade performance and instead improves overall quality.
The implementation details behind this would make for a nice presentation at Esri PUG someday when they allow vendors to talk about commercial matters.
